Description

Vintage Decca Records promotional card signed on the front by the Rolling Stones, obtained at ATV Studios on February 7, 1964, the day the band was banned from the network for arriving two hours late to rehearsals

Vintage circa 1964 Decca Records promotional card for the Rolling Stones, 5.5 x 4.25, signed and inscribed in ballpoint, “Love to Pauline, xx, Bill Wyman, xx,” “Brian Jones,” “Mick Jagger,” “Keith Richard,” and “Charlie Boy.” The front of the card features the same image used for the cover of the band’s self-titled debut EP, which Decca released in January 1964 to test the commercial appeal of the Rolling Stones before they would commit to producing a full album. In very good to fine condition, with old tape stains to the top, and light creasing to the right border. A highly desirable, collectable set of a fully signed Stones promo card, as many of these are autographed on the reverse.

The consignor notes that the autographs were obtained when the Stones made an appearance on the Arthur Haynes Show at ATV studios, London, England, on February 7, 1964. They performed two songs on the show, ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’ and ‘You Better Move On.’ Earlier in the day they arrived two hours late for rehearsals and missed the final run-through after shopping in Carnaby Street for clothes. This would earn them a ban from ATV, which would later be lifted due to their ever-increasing popularity.

Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and a letter from the original recipient: “When I was 15/16 years old I used to babysit for friends of my parents. These friends knew the comedian Arthur Haynes and would often bring back, from their evening out, the autographs from guests starring on ‘Arthur Haynes Show.’ One set of autographs being from the Rolling Stones (Feb 1964) addressed ‘to Pauline.’”
