Description

Japanese naval officer who commanded the 11th Flotilla (1900-1986) and who was Senior Officer on board the destroyer Amagiri on the night of the collision with John F. Kennedy's PT-109. FDC with a cachet honoring President John F. Kennedy, signed in black ballpoint, "Captain Katsumori Yamashiro, Cmdr.," who adds a lengthy annotation: "John F. Kennedy was a courageous Lt. in the Solomon IS and a President of the U.S. which he served with integrity. His name can not be marred with a disgraceful lie. The PT109 was sunk by accident by the Amagiri. I should know, I was the captain on the historical day."
