Two partly-printed DSs, individually signed “John Lennon” and “Yoko Ono Lennon,” both one page, 7.5 x 3.5, October 1, 1976. A pair of bank address change authorization slips from the Bowery Savings Bank of New York City, annotated by a banker to change their account address from “Weissbarth, Altman & Miller, 919 Third Avenue, New York, New York 10022,” to “c/o Oppenheim, Appel, Dixon & Co., One New York Plaza, New York, New York 10004,” reflecting a transition in financial management for husband and wife. Both forms are signed at the conclusion in black felt tip by the respective account holders, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, authorizing the update. In overall very fine condition. Dated just months after Lennon secured his U.S. green card on July 27 of that year, these forms reflect a moment of newly settled residency and an update to the power couple’s financial arrangements in New York City.
The consignor notes that the handwriting on the forms is that of his father, a longtime Bowery Savings Bank employee who personally handled the transaction. He served at the bank for approximately 36 years, rising from teller to senior vice president. Following his passing in August, these documents were discovered among his personal belongings.
