Description

Pioneer of American newspaper comic strips (1857–1937) best known for his comic strip Happy Hooligan. Original artwork by Frederick Burr Opper of a scene featuring a hobo, a goat, and a policeman, accomplished in ink and graphite on an off-white 9.25 x 6.75 sheet, which is signed in the lower left corner, “F. Opper.” The drawing depicts a bedraggled man seated and waving to a confused police officer as a hungry goat chews on the vagrant's hair. Double-matted and framed to an overall size of 14.5 x 12. In fine condition, with wear to the frame.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
