Description

TLS, one page, 8.25 x 11.75, July 8, 1980. Letter to "Monsieur Halevy," authorizing the use of his “Isaiah 42:6” and “The Twelve Tribes” designs for a fundraising medal project. In full (translated): "I thank you for the report you provided today regarding the steps and actions you have undertaken in countries other than Israel, in accordance with the agreement set out in my letter to you dated January 2, 1980.

I am very pleased that you have already been able to lay the initial groundwork for the necessary organizations in Switzerland, West Germany, and England, and that you are now doing the same for the United States and South Africa.

I am very happy that your legal counsel is currently establishing an international charitable foundation in Geneva under the name 'Housing and Welfare Foundation.'

The distribution of the medals in all foreign countries will be carried out through specialized organizations, and the proceeds will be transferred to this Foundation to fund humanitarian and social work aimed at helping to solve housing and welfare problems for young couples and the underprivileged in Israel.

I leave it to your personal discretion to decide, in specific cases, whether a portion of the proceeds raised by organizations or other institutions should be allocated to their own humanitarian and social activities. Naturally, the remainder of the proceeds will be transferred to the 'Housing and Welfare Foundation' that you are establishing in Geneva.

In addition to my 'Isaiah 42:6' design, I authorize you to use my 'The Twelve Tribes' design, dated St. Paul de Vence 1980, as shown in the photograph I have just handed to you, for minting the medals. As always, I must approve every stage of the preparation and minting process.

Please continue to monitor and personally oversee all operations to ensure that the funds benefiting the "Housing and Welfare Foundation" are used solely for the humanitarian work in question.

I wish you every success and hope that all our efforts come to fruition." In fine condition, with a light rusty paperclip impression to the top edge.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
