Influential Irish author and scholar (1898-1963), a former atheist who became an eloquent convert to Christianity, best known for his works on Christian theology and his much-beloved, seven-book juvenile fantasy series The Chronicles of Narnia. ANS signed “C. S. Lewis,” one page, 6 x 7, 'Scot' W. P. Walker letterhead, December 15, 1962. Handwritten response to autograph collector Scot Walker's inquiry, "What Makes a Man great?," penned in the lower margin of the letter sent to him. Lewis writes, in full: "The question is obscure. Are you asking of a definition of greatness? Or for an empirical account of factors in heredity, education, etc. to be reached by a study of various great men? Anyway, I don't know the answer to either question. But here is the autograph." In fine condition.
From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
