Highly regarded French painter (1830-1903), one of the leading figures of the impressionist movement, best known for his distinctive pointillist style. ALS in French, signed “C. Pissarro,” one page, 4.5 x 7, December 8, 1899. Addressed from Paris, a handwritten letter to his son, Ludovic-Rodo Pissarro, whom he calls “Rod,” in full (translated): “George re-entered the Neuilly sanitarium. I shall go to see him Saturday. I am late in doing so. L. Simon has assured me that he will be perfectly taken care of. Teissier is beside himself. I gave him your address a long time ago. I think as you do that we will be able to select a jewel for you to send to Madame Decoret, but you will have to assist me in the choice. Give Amicie my best regards and tell her not to torment herself so.” In fine condition.
Ludovic-Rodo Pissarro (1878–1952), known within the family as 'Rodo' or 'Rod,' was the fourth son of Camille Pissarro and later compiled the catalogue raisonné of his father’s work, published in 1939. Georges Pissarro (1871–1961), the artist’s third son, is the subject of concern in this letter. Written during the final years of Pissarro’s life, the letter offers a glimpse into his private world, balancing concern for a son’s health with the everyday matter of selecting a gift for a family acquaintance.
