He is best known for the Waverley novels, including Ivanhoe and Rob Roy, as well as the narrative poems Marmion and The Lady of the Lake, which exerted a lasting influence on European and American literature. Third-person ALS, one page, 5 x 7.75, [March 1807]. Handwritten letter addressed from his “Bury Street” residence: “Mr. Walter Scott regrets that the lateness of the hour of his arrival in town from Hampshire prevents his having the honor to wait on Miss Longman & Co’y to dinner.” In fine condition, with toning from prior display.
