Description

Tchaikovsky praises a performer: "This charming soprano, full of taste and feeling, was certainly the most beautiful event of the concert"

ANS in French, signed “P. Tchaikovsky,” one page, 8.5 x 3, February 9, 1888. Handwritten note regarding a German soprano's concert performance, in full (translated): "No one could have been happier than I that Miss Aline Friede was kind enough to agree to take part in the Philharmonic concert which I conducted. This charming soprano, full of taste and feeling, was certainly the most beautiful event of the concert. I am pleased to be able to tell her so." In good to very good condition, with overall heavy mottled staining and surface scuffing. Accompanied by an original program for Tchaikovsky's concert with the Berlin Philharmonic on February 8, 1888, listing the four lieder performed by Friede, as well as a scrapbook page bearing clipped contemporary reviews.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
