Description

TLS signed “Edward, Duke of Windsor,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, April 5, 1960. Letter to Lewis E. Keller, in part: "I tried several times to reach you before I left Palm Beach to thank you again for your most generous gesture in flying our Bahamian negro servant Sydney Johnson from Palm Beach to Fresh Creek Andros to see his dying mother last week. Both The Duchess and I as well as Sydney could not appreciate more your placing your private airplane at his disposal for the trip which he could not otherwise have completed in the day. As matters turned out his mother mercifully died last Friday, three days later, thus releasing her from the sufferings of cancer. Sydney will therefore be for ever grateful to you for the opportunity of a last visit with her before she passed away. I greatly enjoyed our golf game at Seminole and the 'playing lesson' from which I learnt a lot. I envy you the compactness of your swing and the great power with which you hit the ball with apparently little effort. I hope we may play again together some day." In fine condition, with multiple horizontal folds. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
