Description

King of the Belgians from 1865 to 1909, chiefly remembered for the founding and exploitation of the Congo Free State as a private venture (1835–1909). Two untranslated items signed by King Leopold II of Belgium: an ALS signed "Leopold," four pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 8, Elysee Palace Hotel, October 26, 1902, to Ambassador Edmund Monson, with the original mailing envelope; and a manuscript vellum DS in French, signed "Leopold," one page, 6.75 x 8.75, July 28, 1907, informing the provisional governor of the Republic of Cuba of the appointment of a new minister resident. In very good to fine condition, with foxing and toning to the document.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
