Description

American poet, novelist, playwright, and activist (1901-1967) in the Civil Rights movement, who became one of the best-known figures of the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s. Partial DS, one page, 8.5 x 11, January 24, 1956. Final page of a publishing agreement between Langston Hughes and Associated Music Publishers, Inc., with the former selling the copyright to the “dramatic composition…‘The Story of Esther.’ Signed nicely in green ink by Hughes. In fine condition. Esther is a 1956/1957 opera based on the biblical Book of Esther, featuring a libretto written by Langston Hughes and music composed by Jan Meyerowitz.
