ALS signed “W. F. Cody,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, illustrated Buffalo Bill's Wild West Co. letterhead, November 16, 1887, with Cody striking through "London " and adding "Birmingham." Handwritten letter to a pension seeker, in full: “The U.S. Gov’t issues pensions only to soldiers who were wounded in the Civil War.” Double-matted and framed with an artistic portrait and an engraved plate to an overall size of 25 x 20.75. In very good condition, with multiple separated intersecting folds, apparently repaired on the back (not examined out of the frame). William F. Cody brought his Wild West show to Birmingham, England, in November 1887, staging a popular winter run at Aston Lower Grounds after a successful London tour. The show featured cowboys, Native Americans, a 15-piece cowboy band, and a large troupe of performers and animals, drawing strong local crowds before continuing on to Manchester.
