Description

Renowned artist (1894-1951) considered the foremost manuscript illuminator of modern times. Color 10 x 11.5 print by artist Arthur Szyk entitled ‘Republic of China,’ featuring imagery celebrating Chinese cultural heritage and modern state identity, including traditional motifs like a dragon, ornamental borders, vignettes of scholars and common people, and portraits of Confucius and Sun Yat-sen, signed in the lower border in black ink by Szyk. Published by K. Bileski and lithographed by Harman Jaffe. Affixed to a same-size cardstock mount and in very fine condition.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
