Description

The secretary of the Continental Congress announces its "choice of a President" as Elias Boudinot

Patriot leader (1729–1824) in Philadelphia during the American Revolution and the secretary of the Continental Congress (1774–1789) throughout its existence; Thomson was the only person to sign the Dunlap Broadside of the Declaration alongside John Hancock. Revolutionary War–dated LS signed “Cha. Thomson,” one page, 6.5 x 8, November 4, 1782. Letter to "His Excellency The President of the State of Pennsylvania," in full: "I have the honor to inform you that this day pursuant to the articles of Confederation, the United States in Congress Assembled proceeded to the choice of a President and have elected for the ensuing year his Excellency Elias Boudinot." Professionally inlaid into a slightly larger sheet and in fine condition.

Boudniot (1740–1821) was an American lawyer and statesman who served as President of the Continental Congress from 1782 to 1783 and later became a US Representative from New Jersey and director of the United States Mint.
