ALS signed “Jackie,” four pages, 6 x 8.5, 'On Board Christina' letterhead, August 2, 1971. Handwritten letter addressed to noted textile designers Doris Doctorow (D.D.) and Leslie Tillett, in full: “I was heartbroken about the misunderstanding of my telegram. The only explanation I can think of, is that with the date of the 4th having passed, whomever forwarded it to you updated it to the next weekend. It would really help if I could speak Greek.
Please, please forgive me for any frenzy it may have caused you. I showed Ari your folder on Greece. He said it was brilliant and that you were absolutely right, and that it would take a lot of hard work. I don't think he is the person to take it on just now. He is involved with so many, too many things. I wish he would disengage himself and not take on any more.
He said to tell you that November would be the time to meet with the architects about the interior at the Olympic Towers building. Please be racking your brains, because all I can imagine a modern office building having is those durable carpets and black leather chairs. I don't know if you can whip those sort of things into Bedford Stuyvesant’s line. All modern buildings just seem to be used materials that armies could tramp over. Though you could do something Minoan in the entrance, and there will be ‘luxury apartments’ on top, though I don't know if they are meant to be decorated by their owners or by you, but I have no imagination, and this is the big chance for Bedford Stuyvesant, so I'm sure you will invent something for us.
Do you remember the Joseph's coat of many colors stripe that I ordered the last piece of this spring? John chose it, & Ari loves it & would like to cover the cushions on long banquettes in a white stucco room with it. The cushions are 4 feet deep, one is 11 feet long, one is 7 feet long, and each of those banquettes has back and side cushions.” Jackie adds two small sketches of the banquettes. “Maybe you can figure out how many yards that is. I would rather get too much than too little. If you are ever printing it again, could you send me a batch, and can you let me know if and when it might be possible to have it? I cannot wait until we all meet, at last it seems as if it will really happen. With much love.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
