Description

Series 1976 two-dollar bill signed on the portrait side in black ink as president, “7/4/76, Gerald R. Ford.” Matted and framed with the original White House transmittal letter (July 21, 1976) and the original mailing envelope to an overall size of 20.75 x 15.75. In fine condition.

The Series 1976 two-dollar bill was a Ford administration initiative: the denomination had been discontinued since 1966 until Treasury Secretary William Simon reissued it on April 13, 1976—Thomas Jefferson's birthday—as part of the Bicentennial celebration. Ford signing one on the Fourth of July itself, as the sitting president who brought it back, makes this a triple convergence: the bill, the date, and the office.
