Description

Superlative vintage matte-finish 7 x 9.5 photo of the Wild West showman standing in a full-length pose, clad in a finely embroidered coat with hat and rifle in hand, neatly signed and inscribed at the bottom in fountain pen, "W. F. Cody, 'Buffalo Bill,' To Countess Von Boos, An Angel of Peace, Jan. 21st, 1912.” Affixed to a slightly larger mount and in fine condition, with light silvering to darker areas of the image.

Mezzo-soprano singer and philanthropist Eugenia Hildegard von Boos Farrar (1875–1966) was an organizer and member of the Executive Committee of the Universal Peace Union, but may be better known for her feats in show business: in 1907 she gave what is believed to be the first live radio singing performance, broadcast over Lee de Forest's experimental transmitter located atop the Parker Building in New York City. An interesting association piece and a great image of 'Buffalo Bill' Cody.
