Vintage glossy 7.25 x 9.25 photo of First Lady Jackie Kennedy commissioning the submarine USS Lafayette, the lead fleet ballistic missile nuclear submarine of its class, with a bottle of champagne on May 8, 1962, signed in blue ballpoint. Matted and framed to an overall size of 9.5 x 11.5. In fine condition, with some mild silvering. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA. Built by the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in Groton, Connecticut, the USS Lafayette was commissioned on April 23, 1963. The submarine, initially outfitted with a Polaris A-2 missile, conducted deterrent patrols in the Atlantic for close to 30 years, until it was deactivated in 1991.
