Actor (1853-1937) best remembered today for portraying Sherlock Holmes on stage and in a 1916 silent film; his portrayal of Holmes helped create the modern image of the detective. Handsome 4.25 x 6.5 cabinet photo of the classic stage actor by Pach Bros., signed on the mount in ink, "Sincerely, William Gillette." In very fine condition, with trivial wear to the corner tips.
