Description

Jim McDivitt’s laminated ‘MCC Viewing Room’ access badge for the historic Apollo 7 mission, which launched on October 11, 1968, from Cape Kennedy Air Force Station, Florida, and splashed down in the Atlantic Ocean eleven days later. The badge, 3.74 x 2.25, issued to “Lt. Col. James McDivitt” for “Mission 7,” is affixed to an 8.25 x 11.75 letter of authenticity signed by McDivitt, who writes: “This mission control badge…was issued to me for use during the Apollo 7 mission. I was in training for the Apollo 9 mission, but like all the Astronauts, I wanted to follow Apollo 7 events as closely as possible when my schedule permitted. Badges like this allowed VIP's, astronauts, and family members to observe activities during the actual space missions. The viewing room was located just behind Mission Control at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas.” In fine condition, with slightly uneven aging to the badge.
