Description

Unmailed 7.5 x 4 envelope addressed to Gary Lorenz in Madison, Wisconsin, signed in the upper right corner in black felt tip, "Jimmy Carter." Postmarked at Atlanta, Georgia, April 1, 1986. In fine condition.

The consignor notes that, while working for the Post Office, he learned that the president had free mailing privileges; he made up about five envelopes, sent them to Carter's mother-in-law with a request that he sign them, and then had them postmarked at various Post Offices around Plains, Georgia. The envelopes were enclosed in larger packets, ensuring that they remained in mint condition.
