Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 8 x 10, April 26, 1844. President Tyler authorizes and directs "the Secretary of State to affix the Seal of the United States to a power authorizing Benjamin E. Green to receive from the Mexican Government the money due by that government to the United States on the 30th instant." Prominently signed at the conclusion in ink by President John Tyler. In fine condition.
In 1843, President Tyler appointed Green as secretary to the legation of the United States at Mexico, where he served as chargé d'affaires until September 1844. The sum of money referred to here would appear to be an obligation arising from a prior treaty.
