Description

Two future French kings approve a request for Louis XVI's guards to wear the Croix de St. Louis, recognizing their services during the storming of Versailles

Manuscript DS in French, signed by the future King Louis XVIII (“Louis Stanislas Xavier”) and his brother, the future King Charles X ("Charles Philippe"), one page, 8 x 13, June 12, 1792. The two future Kings of France give their approval to a request by the Duc de Guiche that six members of Louis XVI's guards, injured on October 5 and 6, 1789, during the storming of Versailles by a Parisian mob, be granted permission to wear the Croix de St. Louis medals given them by the King. King Louis XVI, influenced by his younger brother, Charles Philippe, refused to believe in the increasingly radical trend of popular movements in Paris. His resistance to the popular demands was one of the causes of the forceable transfer of the Royal family from Versailles to Paris. In fine condition.
