Description

American journalist and author (1937-2005) who helped pioneer New Journalism and created the Gonzo style, in which the writer becomes a central character in the story. He gained fame with Hell’s Angels (1967), written after living for a year with the motorcycle club, and further cemented his countercultural reputation with ‘The Kentucky Derby Is Decadent and Depraved’ (1970). Thompson is best known for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1972), first published in Rolling Stone, a hallucinatory critique of the collapse of 1960s counterculture that later inspired film adaptations. Signed book: Hey Rube: Blood Sport, the Bush Doctrine, and the Downward Spiral of Dumbness. First edition. NY: Simon & Schuster, 2004. Hardcover with dust jacket, 5.5 x 9.5, 246 pages.
