Description

Extremely influential French chemist (1743–1794) noted for his discovery of the role oxygen plays in combustion; he was executed by guillotine during the French Revolution due to his involvement with the deeply unpopular Ferme Générale. Manuscript DS in French, signed “Lavoisier,” one page, 9 x 14, September 28, 1791. Financial document pertaining to poll and property taxes paid in Paris, signed at the conclusion in ink by Antoine Lavoisier. In fine condition, with a band of toning from a binder page on the right edge.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
