Description

Lewis Carroll sends the address of a "remarkable young person"

British author, mathematician, and photographer (1832–1898) who, under the pen name Lewis Carroll, published Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel, Through the Looking-Glass, two of the most popular and durable classics in the canon of children's literature. ALS signed "C. L. Dodgson," one page, 3.75 x 5.75, December 20, 1873. Handwritten letter to "My dear Chapman," likely the publisher Frederic Chapman. In full: "I have never heard from that remarkable young person, about whom you inquire, but I can give you her address—it is '34 Warrior Square, St. Leonard's.'" Handsomely cloth-matted and framed with a portrait of the author to an overall size of 11 x 20.25. In fine condition, with slight fading to the handwriting.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
