English actor (1877–1959) best remembered for his role as Kris Kringle in the Christmas film Miracle on 34th Street, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. ALS, one page, 5.25 x 7, 14 John Street letterhead, April 10, 1935. Handwritten letter to A. R. Davis, in part: "I am glad the book arrived safely. Please do not think me impertinent if I should offer a suggestion: it is this—you possess a valuable book. We artists travel a great deal, both at home & aboard. I think it would ensure the book's safety if you wrote first & asked if it would be convenient to us to sign it. Then if we are not in London your book is still safe in your possession." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original envelope panel, addressed in Gwenn's own hand.
From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
