Description

American government official, businessman, and naval officer (1896-1974) who played a key role in U.S. nuclear policy. A founding member of the Atomic Energy Commission in 1946 and its chairman in the 1950s, he was influential in the development of nuclear weapons and energy. He also drove the 1954 security hearing that led to J. Robert Oppenheimer losing his clearance. Souvenir typescript of Lewis Strauss's 1961 birthday letter to Herbert Hoover, three pages both sides, 6.5 x 9, signed at the conclusion in fountain pen, "[This copy of a Birthday letter which I wrote to Ex-President Hoover and which originally appeared in 'Readers Digest' is herewith signed for Mr. John E. Boos] on April 1, 1963, Lewis L. Strauss." In fine condition.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
