Description

Hungarian-born nuclear physicist (1908-2003) who worked with Fermi on the Manhattan Project and later assumed a leading role in the development of the hydrogen bomb. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, University of California letterhead, July 7, 1959. Letter to G. M. Walton, chairman of the Colloquium Committee of Atomic International, in full: "Thank you very much for your letter of December 29th, inviting me to be a colloquium speaker in 1959. My present job keeps me extremely busy and I find it necessary to decline most engagements. However, I will keep your kind invitation in mind and it might be possible for me to speak to your group sometime late in 1959 or in 1960. I regret that I cannot give you a definite commitment at this time." In fine condition, with light creasing in the bottom blank area.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
