Description

World War II-dated DS in Cyrillic, signed “N. Khrushchev,” two pages, 7.25 x 11, August 14, 1944. Issued from Moscow and directed to “Comrade Stalin I.V.,” a document seeking approval of a decree for scientist A. I. Dushechkin, in full (translated): “I am sending a draft Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on awarding Professor and Doctor of Agricultural Sciences A. I. Dushechkin with the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in connection with the fiftieth anniversary of his scientific work and the seventieth anniversary of his birth, which falls on August 14, 1944. Professor Dushechkin has authored over 30 highly valuable scientific papers, including some on the process of nutrient uptake by plants that are exceptionally important in the development of agronomic science. Through his work, he has provided significant assistance to industrial and public organizations on the application of mineral and local fertilizers on collective and state farms in Ukraine. Professor Dushechkin, who headed the Department of Agrochemistry at the Kyiv Agricultural Institute for the past 23 years, trained at least 1,500 specialists, as well as a significant number of researchers for experimental institutions in Ukraine. During the Great Patriotic War, until the day of re-evacuation to Kyiv, Prof. Dushechkin headed the Department of Agrochemistry at the Kazakh Agricultural Institute and conducted extensive research on improving the efficiency of Kara-Tau phosphorites. In April 1943, Comrade Dushechkin joined the ranks of the All-Union Cultural Center in Alma-Ata/6/. Currently, Professor Dushechkin heads the Department of Agrochemistry at the Kyiv Agricultural Institute and serves as Deputy Director for Research at the Ukrainian Research Institute of Social Agriculture. I request approval of the attached draft Decree.” Signed immediately below by Nikita Khrushchev as First Secretary of the Communist Party of Ukraine. In fine condition, with small binder dings to the left edge.
