Description

Welsh textile manufacturer, philanthropist, and reformer (1771–1858) remembered as a founder of utopian socialism and the co-operative movement. ALS, one page both sides, 4.5 x 7.25, January 7, 1855. Handwritten letter to a gentleman, in part: "Many thanks for your kind wishes & affectionate expressions for my health & happiness. The same to you who may naturally expect many happy years—for myself although wishing to live as long as I can benefit my fellow men here, I am also ready to leave this work when my time comes & I for not expect that time to be far off." In fine condition, with scattered faint foxing.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
