Nabucco is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi, first performed in 1842 at La Scala in Milan, and it is widely regarded as the work that permanently established his reputation as a major composer. The opera is celebrated for its bold dramatic style, powerful choral writing, and emotional directness, all of which signaled a new and distinctive voice in Italian opera. The famous chorus 'Va, pensiero' became especially influential, resonating far beyond the stage as an expression of collective longing and national identity.
