German-French Jewish banker (1792–1868) who was the founder of the French branch of the Rothschild family. Partly-printed DS in French, signed “Le Baron James de Rothschild,” one page, 15.75 x 17, February 26, 1838. Bond of the Société Anonyme du Canal de Jonction de la Sambre à l'Oise, issued as no. 303, signed at the conclusion in ink by James Mayer de Rothschild and a few other officials. In very good condition, with tears and loss to the fragile edges, and two areas of paper loss affecting some of the body text.
