Important Italian composer (1792-1868) who became one of the seminal figures in the history of opera with such repertoire staples as The Barber of Seville and William Tell. ALS in Italian, signed "Gioachino Rossini," one page both sides, 8.5 x 10.5, January 24, 1854. Handwritten letter to his attorney, Filippo Santocanale, in part (translated): "I am pleased to hear that more than four thousand ducats have already been collected; these will be received, when the time comes, with the enthusiasm of a soul as warm as your volcano, since I am involved in manufacturing here and therefore in ever-growing need of cash… May God always bless you along with the good Pope Leo." He then recommends a friend, a theatre agent: "Rivi finds himself having contracted not a few good artists for the coming year at your theater. He, who has until now been a victim of his good faith, would like to be assured not to lose the commissions from these future contracts… I commend him to you as a distinguished and honest man." In fine condition.
