Original glossy 8 x 10 reference photo of Chicago Outfit crime boss Al Capone’s mug shot after he was arrested in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for carrying a concealed weapon on May 16, 1929. The front margins feature editorial marks, and the reverse bears “This Paper Manufactured by Kodak” watermarks and an affixed caption from HWH Enterprises, which reads: “The wheelings and dealings of such notorious gangsters as Al Capone are exposed in ‘CRIME, INC.,’ seven shocking videos that feature an inside look at organized crime in America, from HBO Video, as part of the Thames Video Collection.” In fine condition. Encapsulated by PSA as an authentic 'Type IV' photograph from circa 1984.
A day after his mug shot was taken, on May 17, 1929, Capone was indicted by a grand jury, and a trial was held before Philadelphia Municipal Court Judge John E Walsh. Entering a guilty plea by his attorney, Capone was sentenced to a prison term of one year. On August 8, 1929, Capone was transferred to Philadelphia's Eastern State Penitentiary. A week after his release in March 1930, Capone was listed as ‘Public Enemy #1’ on the unofficial Chicago Crime Commission's widely publicized list.
