Highly regarded French painter (1830-1903), one of the leading figures of the impressionist movement, best known for his distinctive pointillist style. ALS in French, signed “C. Pissarro,” one page, 4.25 x 7, August 16, 1896. Handwritten letter to his son, "Rodolphe," noting that his mother will send a bag with velvet trousers and encouraging his studies, in small part (translated): "I am delighted to see you apply yourself to a study at 5 in the morning, it is certainly the best hour of the day during this heatwave…I hope you won't slack off too much. I have finished a series of 9 paintings, I still have two months of good work to do." In very good to fine condition, with toning and fading from prior display.
