Two stapled four-page printed transcripts relating to President Richard Nixon’s 1972 visit to China, both signed on the last page in black ink by Nixon. The first is entitled "Shanghai: Joint Communique – Text of the Joint Statement Issued at the Conclusion of Nixon's Visit, February 27, 1972,” and the second is entitled “Return to Washington - Remarks of the President and Vice President Following the President’s Arrival at Andrews Air Force Base. February 28, 1972.” In overall fine condition.
Nixon's seven-day official visit to the People's Republic of China in late February 1972 marked the first time a U.S. president had visited the PRC. His arrival in Beijing ended 25 years of no communication or diplomatic ties between the two countries and was the key step in normalizing relations between the U.S. and China.
