Canadian physician and researcher (1891-1941) who shared the 1923 Nobel Prize in Medicine for his role in the discovery of insulin. TLS signed “F. G. Banting,” one page, 8.5 x 11, University of Toronto letterhead, August 24, 1931. Letter to Percy Garrett, offering artistic advice. In part: "The designs of your work that interest me are those which are built on Canadian motives. I would suggest that you develop your work along the lines of Ontario life, or beaver or wheat-fields, buffalo, lumbering, or, in other words, portray Canadian background. Snakes and Venus and chariots are things of the old world and are not so creative or original as would be the life in Canada of today or the historical pageant of the past. This is a mere suggestion and you may take it or leave it as you wish." In fine condition, with some faint edge toning.
From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
