Description

Teacher and humanitarian (1821–1912) best known for founding the relief organization the American Red Cross. ALS signed “C. B.,” one page, 5.25 x 6.5, no date. Handwritten letter from Glen Echo, in part: "The Doctor spoke with me about the phone, before telegraphing you and it seemed to us that the opportunity was too good to be lost—if it proved to be at all successful. We felt the full force of your reasoning. The cost is certainly an objection, and one which I should feel as deeply as anyone all things considered…I write now to say if you feel that you cannot spare it, and think it would be better expended in your work there, you can still decline." In very fine condition.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
