ALS signed “L.Frank Baum,” one page, 5.75 x 7, illustrated 'Ozcot' letterhead, January 10, 1916. Handwritten letter to Betty Hungerford, in full: "I meant to thank you for your nice letter and will bear in mind your suggestions about Mr. Yoop! It pleases me to know you like my stories." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Baum's own hand.
Baum introduced Mr. Yoop—a 21 ft. giant with a ravenous appetite for meat, people, and orange marmalade—in his 1913 book, The Patchwork Girl of Oz. The character is also referenced in The Tin Woodman of Oz, published in 1918.
From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
