Two TLSs from former American Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon, signed “L.B.J.” and “RN,” both one page, 7 x 9 and 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, dated March 10, 1972 (LBJ) and February 14, 1986 (Nixon). Both addressed to Col. Frank M. Brandstetter (1912–2011), a legendary hotelier, corporate executive, U. S. Army intelligence officer, who owned a world-renowned resort in Acapulco, Las Brisas. The letters are as follows:
Johnson: “We are settled the ranch again, but the memory of Acapulco and your gracious hospitality linger in our thoughts. Never have we been to a more beautiful dinner party nor in a lovelier setting. We thank you too for the cigars and the wine that our own dinner guests enjoyed while we were there, and for the myriad of other courtesies and help that I am aware you extend to all my people each time we come to Acapulco. I am inclined to think we just ‘couldn't make it’ without you. We would love to have both of you visit us at the ranch and hope you will let us know sometime when you come to Dallas or any other spot in Texas.
Nixon: “I want you to know how much I appreciated your thoughtfulness in calling my office to express your concern during my recent bout with the flu and your sending me some reading material while I recuperate. I found it amusing that the current nationwide epidemic has been diagnosed as ‘the Russian flu.’ I suppose some might say that it was inevitable that my case would therefore be particularly severe! However, as a result of excellent care at the Miami Heart Institute and a strong constitution, I am now well on the way to a complete recovery.” In overall fine condition, with rusty staple holes to the top of the LBJ letter. Accompanied by the two original mailing envelopes, the Johnson cover bearing his stamped franking signature.
