British politician (1759–1806) who served as Prime Minister from 1783 to 1801 and 1804 to 1806. Manuscript DS, signed “W. Pitt,” one page, 9 x 10.75, October 22, 1788. Official letter to Henry Pelham-Clinton, 2nd Duke of Newcastle, in part: “After Our hearty Commendations, By Virtue of His Majesty’s General letter….bearing date the 6th day of November 1760. These are to pray & require your Grace to Draw an Order for paying unto the officers & Clerks of the Tolly Court in the Receipt of His Majesty’s Exchequer or to their Assigns the Sum of Seventeen Pounds Ten Shillings, without Account in Reward and Satisfaction for Ledging Tollies Mentioned in the Certificate Annexed.” Signed at the conclusion by Pitt as Prime Minister of Great Britain. In very good to fine condition, with a small hole to the upper left corner, and restored paper loss to the lower right corner, which impinges upon, but doesn't affect, the signature.
