ALS signed “Neil,” one page, 6 x 4.25, November 21, 1984. Handwritten letter to Peter Brockbank, in full: “Peter – Can it be? I’m not sure if you are the person of whom I am thinking, — the one I have been asking mutual friends about for five years now!!! Please understand that a lot of strange calls come to our office — they don’t know. I remember. Please write to Box 1257, Station Q, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M4T 2P4. Are you really…? I mean…” In very good condition, with overall creasing, and partial separation to the heavy central vertical fold. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and by a photograph of Peart posing next to a BMW during Rush’s 1988 European Tour.
Peter Brockbank met Neil Peart in 1971 when the latter was in England seeking opportunities as a young musician. Brockbank served as a van driver for Peart’s new band, and the two quickly became friends. Peart eventually left London and returned to Canada, but not before leaving his contact information with Brockbank. The two eventually reunited thirteen years later when Brockbank sent Peart a Christmas card asking if he remembered him. Brockbank’s detailed story of his relationship with Peart, and their eventual reunion, was printed as a series called ‘The Legends of Brocklehurst,’ which ran in the National Midday Sun from May through December 2006. It can be read in full at the Rush tribute website Power Windows.
