Civil War-dated ALS from William M. Patton, a former Union soldier of the 2nd Indiana Cavalry Regiment, one page both sides, 5 x 8, October 13, 1864. Addressed from “Clinton,” a handwritten letter to Patton’s brother-in-law, Watson Benson, in part (spelling and grammar retained): “I have once More Got the opportunity to Rite a few Lines to you to Let you Now that Wee are all Well at present But Little Martin hee has the Ague Every Day. Well Watson i have got home once More Safe an Sound i come home the 29 of Sept But i had to go Bac the 3 of Oct and i got discharge on The 5 and got home the 6.” On the reverse of the second integral page, Patton adds a note: “i had Like to forgot huraugh for Governer Morton Col Washburn and Old Abe and the Stars & Stripes and Death to Rebls and Northen traitors the Election is a going all Righth here.” In very good to fine condition, with some light foxing, and a small area of edge loss touching two words of text.
