Description

Japanese painter and printmaker (1886–1968) whose work combined Japanese techniques with Western style. ALS in French, signed “Foujita et Kimiyo,” one page both sides, 8 x 10, August 23, 1949. Handwritten letter to Georges Grosjean, with remarks on Paris and his work. He is worried because he has learned of a serious fire near Bordeaux; he hopes he was not affected by this terrible incident and that everyone is all right. He is working tirelessly to prepare for his exhibition and is eager to be in France, but they are very happy in New York where he continues to paint and sculpt frames for an exhibition.

In small part (translated): "We hope to join you in your beautiful country as soon as possible. Yesterday in 'Life' magazine, I saw some photos of American life in the Latin Quarter. I so wanted to see Paris; what a dream, what joy if we were in Paris! A little patience, I am working, and I will make that ideal trip." In fine condition.
