Ohioan politician (born 1816) who served as the seventh Chief Justice of the United States from 1874 to his death in 1888. Massive vintage matte-finish 15.25 x 19 portrait photograph of Morrison R. Waite by the Landy Photography Studio of Cincinnati, Ohio, trimmed in an arch shape and presented on its original 20 x 26.5 studio mount, signed and inscribed in the lower border in fountain pen as Chief Justice of the United States, “Truly yrs. M. R. Waite…Sept. 10, 1874, Toledo, Ohio.” In fine condition, with some soiling in the borders.
