Description

Distinguished American-born artist (1856-1925) who spent most of his career as an expatriate in Europe. While he painted a variety of subjects in various media, his fame rests primarily on his evocative, penetrating society portraits. ALS signed “John S. Sargent,” one page both sides, 4.5 x 3.5, 31. Tite Street stationery card, postmarked July 2, 1912. Handwritten letter from Sargent in his difficult-to-read penmanship, thanking the addressee and arranging for a get-together. In fine condition, with some faint staining. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
