Description

American sculptor (1898–1976) known as the originator of the mobile. ALS signed “Sandy,” two pages, 5.5 x 9, August 2, 1936. Handwritten letter to Ben Nicholson of London, in part: "Your note is in Roxbury, and I am in New York—so I am a bit vague about what you wrote. But I am very pleased that you like my jewellery to such an extent, and I thank you for your 'trade.' And I will be very glad to send you some photographs for your review. If I ever have any profound observations to make (which I doubt) I will impart them to you. Let me know how things progress, and I will try to get some photos at once." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Calder's own hand and incorporating his last name, "Calder," in the return address area.
