Original engraved invitation by Tiffany & Co. for the historic 1883 opening ceremonies of the Brooklyn Bridge, 8 x 6.25, reading: “The Trustees of the New York and Brooklyn Bridge request the honor of the presence of Hon. Martin A. Haynes, at the Opening Ceremonies, to take place on Thursday, May twenty-fourth, at two o’clock, P.M.” Matted and framed to an overall size of 11.5 x 9.5. In fine condition, with some wear to the frame. The opening ceremonies included speeches, bands, cannon fire, and fireworks, with notable attendees including President Chester A. Arthur and future President Grover Cleveland, then governor of New York.
